The parish of Battersea grew from several distinct areas, surrounded by open land, which gradually grew during the nineteenth century into one urban sprawl. These consisted of the original village around Battersea square, the cross roads that would become known as Clapham Junction and the industrial district of Nine Elms. Today Battersea is a popular area of South London with residents and visitors alike being able to enjoy the open spaces of both Battersea Park and Wandsworth Common. The area enjoys many great trendy shops, bars and restaurants and is home to Battersea Dogs Home and the Battersea Museum.
